About

Marie Eriel Hobro is a Visayan (Filipina) photographer specializing in documentary storytelling, photojournalism, and portraiture. She is also a filmmaker, writer, and a high school photography teacher.

Marie was born in Maryland to immigrant Filipino parents and raised between Mililani and Wahiawā, Hawaiʻi. She received her Bachelor of Science in Visual Journalism from Brooks Institute and attended the Eddie Adams XXIX Workshop as a student in the Fall of 2016. She is also a proud member of Diversify Photo and Authority Collective.

Marie’s work is deeply rooted in aloha ʻāina (love of the land). She is passionate about working alongside the people of Hawaiʻi to dismantle colonial narratives, uplift community voices, and highlight queer, Indigenous joy as a form of resistance.

When she’s not doing photography, she can be found hyperfixating on music, comedy, queer history, Indigenous history, rollerskating, plants, funky novelty items, or some sort of weird craft abomination. She is available for assignment on Oʻahu.
