a place of refuge
Below is an excerpt from Rae Sojot's 'A Place of Refuge':
It's been almost a year since my documentary collective, Wolf & Woman, and I started working with the people of Pu’uhonua o Wai'anae (Refuge of Waianae). The houseless encampment is one of the largest and oldest encampments on O’ahu— serving as home to around 170 people.
In the time we’ve spent with this community, two Wolf & Woman members and I have been working on projects that focus on different aspects of the village. In addition to these projects, we were asked by FLUX magazine, a Honolulu-based publication, to do a separate story for their Tribes issue. This select work is my portion of what we did.
